An astronaut is a person who flies in space. The Karman line is 100 km altitude, or 328,000 feet or 62 miles altitude, and is the internationally accepted boundary of space set by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. This includes persons who have not achieved orbit. NASA awards civilian astronaut wings to their pilots who fly above 264,000 feet altitude -- 50 miles high (approx 80km).
