Welcome to Lunarpedia! Don't worry about proofreading. If you've created a mess, just add the {{Cleanup}} tag. -- Strangelv 03:02, 3 March 2007 (PST)

Difficulties getting started

Thank you for the fast welcome.

I am having a great deal of difficulty getting started. I have managed to input a page, "People on the Moon", but it is not linked to anything. --Jriley 05:19, 3 March 2007 (PST)

Thank you for noting your difficulties. I'm presently working on a quick and dirty formatting guide. -- Strangelv 05:54, 3 March 2007 (PST)

Creative Commons

Mike wanted me to double-check that you knew that the Creative Commons namespace attributes Lunarpedia, not any of the contributors (I described the problem as the 150 contributors problem -- the required attribution could be longer than the used portion of the article). You're actually the first person to use the namespace. None of the people who insisted we needed it have yet contributed to Lunarpedia... -- Strangelv 05:54, 3 March 2007 (PST)

Right now, I do not know what you are talking about. For example, I am not familiar with the term Creative Commons namespace.
Learning technical processes, like working a wiki, is an exponential process. You must start by making incredibly simple baby steps available to the newbie. Very soon, sometimes within hours, they will work up the exponential learning curve and often surpass their teachers. A teaching aid of this type is not easy to design and write. I have written such aids and could write one for Lunarpedia if necessary.
I assure you that my expectation is that anything posted to a wiki is given to the entire world free for nothing. In fact that is the whole point.
I have gotten two books published. Neither sold. I found the whole copy right effort an exercise in futility. I am out of the book writing business. I think it is obsolete anyway.
What I am trying to do right now is move over to Wiki writing. This form seems to fit my entire history of communal work very well. (Peace, love, and all that hippy s**t).
Thanks again for your prompt reply.

By default, everything here is released to the public domain (or already in the public domain) -- that is, without any copyright protection at all. If that is how you want your article released, then it should simply be 'People on the Moon‎', or http://lunarpedia.org/index.php?title=People on the Moon -- to put in into a category, for example Urban Planning, add at the bottom of the article '[[Category:Urban Planning]]'. You can also add any additional categories that may be appropriate.
The 'CC_Lunar:' prefix isn't a category, it's a 'namespace' separate from where your article would be otherwise that exists for different terms of use. When you put it there we assumed you meant to put it there to prevent its release into the public domain.
Note that Myself, Mike, and Charles are in the Moon Society MOO and one of us may be able to answer your questions in real time. There is a java client available to get there at http://moo.asi.org -- or you can telnet to moo.asi.org port 7777 and type in 'connect guest' there.
Again, I'm sorry for your confusion, and anything we can work out to make it clearer for other people in the future that you can help with would be greatly appreciated along with your contributions.

Scientifiction dot org, Marspedia dot org, and 'Unnamed Space Dictionary Wiki'

I can't remember if I told you about Thursday Space Chat in NSS MOO (two moves from the Commons in ASI MOO -- NSS then W). It has often served as the de facto board for Lunarpedia (the Moon Society Board of Directors and Leadership Committee have been interested, but have been very hands-off, possibly fearful of harming the promising looking goose).

It was decided there this evening to move fiction content from Lunarpedia to a different wiki specifically designed for the purpose. The name we picked was scientifiction dot org which is now set up and ready. While I plan on having the wiki fully integrated with Lunarpedia, Marspedia, and a probable dictionary wiki we couldn't come up with a satisfactory name for (plus a likely general space wiki, especially if the NSS wants to join in the fun), the user databases will be separate, so you'll need to set up an account in each one, especially scientifiction. As of when I type this there's just me and WikiSysop, an account only really to be used to set up the first bureaucrat/sysop and to perform certain functions at a system maintenance level that would be performed by Mike or Dana.

I'd jump right in, but I'm mostly asleep. The front page is locked against unregistered users and points here, but other than that it's a clean slate ready for tailoring.

Note that the question of where to draw the line on adult situations is still not definitively answered.

It's probably a good idea to avoid listing or linking to marspedia or scientifiction anywhere until the sites are ready to show up in search engines.
