The Moon Society is an international nonprofit 501(c)3 educational and scientific organization formed to further the creation of communities on the Moon involving large-scale industrialization and private enterprise.

The Society's support of the Vision for Space Exploration (VSE) involves "complementing NASA initiatives and goals by looking for alternative options to advance research goals NASA is not able to undertake."

Founded in 2000 by Gregory R. Bennett, The Moon Society assumed membership services from Artemis Society International, which continues to exist as a foundation.

The Society’s mission is to inspire and involve people everywhere, and from all walks of life, to focus on the continued study and exploration of the Moon with the goal of accelerating the day when there will be civilian settlements on the Moon, making use of local resources through private enterprise both to support the pioneers themselves and to help alleviate Earth's stubborn energy and environmental problems. In this effort, the Society seeks both to remove obstacles and to help lay foundations.

The Society has US and international local chapters and outposts (local contacts and chapters in formation). Moon Miners’ Manifesto (http://www.MoonMinersManifesto.com) founded by the Lunar Reclamation Society (http://www.lunar-reclamation.org) in 1986 serves as the Society’s monthly newsletter.

The Society has established affiliations with the National Space Society (http://www.nss.org), the American Lunar Society (http://www.amlunsoc.org), the Calgary Space Workers Society (http://www.calgaryspaceworkers.com and the Mexican Space Society http://www.sociedadespacialmexicana.org/)

Society projects include Lunarpedia.org and the University of Luna Project (http://www.U-LunaProject.org). In 2006, a Moon Society crew (MDRS crew #45) conducted a two week moonbase simulation at the Mars Desert Research Station to explore the possibilities of developing its own Lunar Analog Research Station program.

The Moon Society, an offshoot of the [[Artemis Society International]], is a non-profit educational and scientific foundation formed to further scientific study and development of the moon. The objectives of the society shall be, but are not limited to:

* The creation of a space-faring civilization which will establish communities on the Moon; promotion of large-scale industrialization and private enterprise on the Moon;
* The promotion of interest in the exploration, research, development, and habitation of the Moon, through the media of conferences, the press, library and museum exhibits, and other literary and educational means;
* The support, by funding or otherwise, of scholarships, libraries, museums and other means of encouraging the study of the Moon and related technologies;
* The stimulation of the advancement and development of applications of space and related technologies and encouragement of entrepreneurial development thereof;
* The bringing together of persons from government, industry, educational institutions, the press, and other walks of life for the exchange of information about the Moon;
* Promoting collaboration between various societies and groups interested in developing and utilizing the Moon.
* Informing the public at large on matters related to the Moon; and
* The provision of suitable recognition and honor to individuals and organizations which have contributed to the advancement of the exploration, research, development, and habitation of the Moon, as well as scientific and technological developments related thereto.
