The 'Lunar and Planetary Institute' (''LPI''), located near the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, is a nonprofit institute that supports scientific study of the moon and planets, and serves as repository of the information gathered from the Apollo missions. It is run by the Universities Space Research Association, and was established during the Apollo missions to foster international collaboration. It hosts several conferences, meetings, and workshops, most notably the annual Lunar and Planetary Science conference (LPSC), one of the largest scientific conferences dealing with planetary science.

From the their mission statement, "Today, the LPI is an intellectual leader in lunar and planetary science. The Institute serves as a scientific forum attracting world-class visiting scientists, postdoctoral fellows, students, and resident experts; supports and serves the research community through newsletters, meetings, and other activities; collects and disseminates planetary data while facilitating the community's access to NASA science; and engages, excites, and educates the public about space science and invests in the development of future generations of explorers."
