Inspired by "The Colonization of Space" by Professor Gerard K. O'Neill, The L5 Society was incorporated in August 1975 with the vision of a space habitat at the L5 Lagrangian libration point.
The publication 'L5 News' (first issue September 1975) became an inspiration to many.
In 1987 the L5 Society merged with the 'National Space Institute' to become the 'National Space Society'.
