Surveyor was the first United States project to soft-land a robotic spacecraft on the moon. The Surveyor program began with the successful Surveyor 1 lander, which landed on the moon in the Oceanus Procellarum on June 2, 1966. The final surveyor mission was Surveyor 7, which landed on January 10, 1968 near the crater Tycho.
The mission Surveyor 6 perfomed a rocket-powered "hop" from its landing site, and is claimed to be the first rover to successfully traverse on another world.)
