WMAP Observes the Universe from L2 Lagrange Point The L2 Lagrange point is a gravitational saddle point generated by the combined pull of the Sun and Earth. It is 1 million miles (1.5 km) beyond the Earth's orbit and provides an ideal vantage point from which to view deep space free from interference from the Sun, Earth, and Moon.
