The motto of a lunar settlement should probably be, “Non Illegitimus Carborundum” – “Don’t let the bustards grind you down”.

microns

Not sure I like the big paragraph explaining microns. ...Another reason for me to try to get ExoDictionary fully stocked with stock definitions from SP-7. Where did I put my misplaced, recently rediscovered checklist to do before restarting the deluge again? -- Strangelv 00:06, 31 March 2007 (PDT)

Personally I feel that paragraph is needed, not everybody knows what they are. Mdelaney 15:32, 31 March 2007 (BST)

I have to agree with mike.
The Case:
I had no idea what µm meant and (suppose for a moment that this wasn't something I was particularly interested in) if they hadn't been in the article, I certainly wouldn't have taken the time to go looking for a definition. The article would have had little, if any, impact on my understanding of the lunar environment beyond "Ok, dust is supposed to be a problem. So what's the big deal again?" Accompanied by one of my usual vacant minded facial expressions.
Possible solution:
Using small, journalistic style tidbits to make the basic parts of Lunarpedia more understandable will be critical. Otherwise we take the same path as the NASA PAO and will most likely fail in our efforts at public outreach. ie. NASA Television. The average joe would have no idea what we're saying and if forced to listen to us will eventually space out and fall asleep.
Summary:
It may be important that we not balk at the inclusion of small asides with extra info to aid peoples understanding of the Moon and the hurdles that we must overcome. The price may be some minor duplications of content in very small sections with links to more extensive articles.

Interesting points J, which makes me think of a new wiki feature request - it would be great to have a "mouse over" feature, where you hover the cursor over a keyword, and an explanation pops up, without causing you to leave the page (similar to Yahoo News).Charles F. Thats a really nifty idea. Can we do that with MediaWiki? -- Jarogers2001 12:17, 1 April 2007 (PDT)

That would certainly require javascript enabled.

Robotic bifurcations ulceration, closure irrelevant, malignancy.
