Directed energy refers to a variety of methods, from microwave to lasers to sound.  Once these technologies are large scale tactical assets then they will follow the historical path from tactical to practical applications.  I can see a time when high power solid state lasers or magnetrons would be used to vaporize sections of regolith, causing the area around it to crack or possibly even shatter due to rapid expansion.  Remember that lots of ideas have been star trek ideas.  Flip phones, blue tooth communicators, ion propulsion, etc etc.  See Technovelgy.com  I am of the opinion that the article should stay, although it is in serious need of formatting/cleanup.  On a side note, please remember log in before attempting to sign your submissions. -- [[User:Jarogers2001|Jarogers2001]] 17:47, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

There is a slight relation between the directed energy weapons discussed in this article and use of directed energy on Luna. For instance it has been mentioned that microwave energy might be used on Luna to form vitrious pavement on roads to hold down dust. Excavating with directed energy is a Star Treck idea. It will not happen on Luna. On the ballance, I think the directed energy weapons article should be removed from Lunarpedia. Is there some connection to Lunar colonies that would justify keeping it here? 209.23.189.16 20:43, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
