Universities Space Research Association
USRA is based in Houston, Texas, near the NASA Johnson Space Center offers various benefits and services.
One interesting program, USRA sometimes act as an informal clearing house to broker free satellite launch opportunities for non-profit educational spacecraft. For example, if a launch vehicle company has unused or surplus payload mass available on a scheduled commercial launch, they will sometimes approach USRA to find a payload to fill the gap, otherwise they would have to simply fly ballast.
USRA also acts as a host for the Lunar and Planetary Institute.
