A type of geological feature resembling a canyon or gorge visible in many locations on the surface of the Moon. Unlike Earth, where such features are often the result of flowing water, on the Moon they are thought to be formed from collapsed lava tubes.
One famous Rille is Hadley Rille which was studied in situ by the crew of Apollo-15 who landed on the edge of the rille in July 1971.
