In an interview with David Livingstone on The Space Show (ref: The Space Show - 7th Jan 2008 interview with Alan Bean) Apollo moonwalker and artist Alan Bean mentioned that Harrison Schmitt (another Apollo moonwalker astronaut) had suggested to him the idea of lunar skiing as it should be possible to ski down a layer of thick dust on a steep slope, such as those he encountered at the Taurus-Litttrow landing site of Apollo-17. Schmitt had said he was able to do some limited skiing in his moon boots.
