Harold A. Rosen is widely known as the "Father of the Geostationary Communications Satellite".

He was the founder and leader of the former Google Lunar X PRIZE Team Southern California Selene Group, which was notable for having the earliest viable plan for completing the mission. The SCSG was the first team to withdraw from the competition (immediately following the first GLXP Team Summit, in Straasbourg, France, February 2008), as a result of contractual difficulties with the GLXP Master Team Agreement (MTA).
