Clementine, also known as the Deep Space Program Science Experiment, was the first major Lunar Science mission since Apollo. Launched by the Ballistic Missile Defence Organization, it was the original Faster, Cheaper, Better style mission. From conceptual design to launch was only 22 months.

Clementine took over 1.8 million images in early 1994, and the data was quickly made available over the Internet.

Working with the BMDO was the Naval Research Laboratory (spacecraft design, construction, and mission integration) and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Sensors).
