Former Republican congressman Robert Walker, recognized as one of Washington's leading political strategists, has long had an interest in the space program. While serving in congress he spent some time as chair of the House Science Committee. He is currently chairman of lobbying firm Wexler & Walker.

Walker was one of the members of the Aldridge Commission in 2004, which studied the implementation of President Bush's "New Vision for Space Exploration".
