The Space Frontier Foundation was established in 1988 by Rick Tumlinson, Bob Werb, and Jim Muncy as an advocacy group with the goal of replacing the United State's existing bureaucratic exclusionary space program with an inclusive, entrepreneurial, frontier-opening enterprise.

The group's signature event is its annual NewSpace conference, where entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, entertainment leaders, aerospace industry executives, government representatives and citizens meet and discuss the latest ideas and activities pertaining to the exploration, settlement and development of space.

Numerous projects are also used to open the space frontier, including Teachers in Space, Space Settlement and NewSpace Economic Development.

Jeff Krukin is the Executive Director and creator of The Human-Space Connection® concept.

The group currently sponsors the Space Frontier Conference, the Return to the Moon Conference, and the NewSpace Economic Development Conference.
