This could be called a boring habitat concept, but really I am quite interested.  The graphics work is impressive.  As an improvement I would suggest doors at both ends of the living space module which lead to interconnecting modules.  The interconnector modules should have little more than four doors each or five doors if there is one in the ceiling or floor.  Each module should be capable of air tight closure.  There should be a whole network of modules for the settlement to be able to house all of the infrastructure needed to support people.  The article referred to habitats as "FIRST STAGE", which is pictured, and '''THIRD STAGE''' described in text.  I suppose there is an implication that the first stage settlers would build the colony until it reached second and third stage.  We should consider the history of space enterprise so far.  All economic activity in space has been done by robotic or automatic equipment, because people working in space are just too expensive at $5,000 per pound for food or water lifted to low Earth orbit or $80,000 per pound to land it on Luna.  Only when there is sufficient infrastructure to recycle consumables can people do economic work in space.  That infrastructure should be built by robots, so there will never be the primitive five person habitat pictured.  Features of the design could be included in some of the modules built for an eventual human colony.  - [[User:Farred|Farred]] 02:32, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

The tunnel habitat picture is very impressive as visual communication. In an actual Lunar Settlement the air reconditioning and waste recycling will probably occupy considerably more space than the sleeping, eating, and work spaces, just as the out of doors spaces on Earth are larger than the indoors spaces. Much infrastructure will be needed to support each person if colonists are not just living on imported consumables. Although people are likely to be able to live in the air reconditioning space and recycling space and do some work their, they are likely to spend most of their time elsewhere. That elsewhere will be indoor spaces because the radiation environment outdoors on Luna is unhealthy and not suitable for routine colonist presence in a Space suit. The main part of an economically self supporting lunar settlement will be industry and the out of doors portion of that industry will be robotic, reomotely controlled, and/or automatic machinery. - Farred 06:45, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
