Human Resources for Off-Earth Markets
- labor pool - Culturally, the airline or astronaut personality is in its infancy vis a vis experience with the colonization of large multicultural groups ..Whereas the MARITIME world has been doing this for centuries..the spaceport labor pool will come from the merchant mariner labor pool which is already global, multinational and run in a strictly hierarchical, precision management system of megacorporation ownership. Spaceport and space ship labor for travel/leisure and global supply chain functions will easily be the offspring of cruise ships and maritime industry families/personnel. For shipboard hotel operations, self sufficiency is status quo..Global provisioning and multi port embark/debark activities allowing for flag state sovereignty already function at very high levels...Mariners are used to living at their work, away from family for long periods of time.. A Mariner lifestyle choice is most like/suited to spaceship/port operations. Cargo (of all kinds even that which talks back) ships in orbits above the earth would be run by virtually the same "bound to adventure" personalities found aboard ships that currently orbit the earth's oceans..needing only adaptations to new mode of propulsion and gravity challenges (we will have that sorted out soon. adjusting ways to lash down the cargo in storms or heavy seas to variations of "space gimbling".) Maritime engineering systems already thrive and adapt with dynamic technological change...with multiple, collaborative efforts in place with aerospace engineers. This collaboration will expand to DECK (pilot navigation) and HOTEL operations as the vessels for in space use are refined.
- trained personnel - will come from mariner backgrounds...Space law is very similar to and had its genesis in Admiralty law. The IMO (international maritime Organization) understands "securing the global supply chain" Merchant Marine Academies world wide (IAMU- International association of Maritime Universitites)already have extensive exchange programs with different flag states..Spaceships will easily be departmental extensions of existing maritime industry megaplayers..with IMO/IAMU adapting maritime education and laws of the sea to technical and managerial training for space application while protecting the rights of space mariners. Training could be accomplished in a traditional maritime STCW (Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping) type of command ...with virtually identical licensure and regulatory systems.
